Breast Cancer Recovery is pleased to announce our 2024 Ann Haney Award recipient: Kirsten Norslien This award is inspired by our founder, Ann Haney. Nominations told stories of women's breast cancer journey that has been an inspiration to others around her, and whose light has shined brighter. The nomination committee was so inspired by the journey of all our 2024 nominees, and all they do to support women with breast cancer in your community.The award was presented at our Party on the Lanes on Saturday, October 19 at Ten Pin Alley. Kirsten was nominated by Lannia Stenz.
Kirsten's contributions to breast cancer support and awareness Kirsten Norslien has made both personal and professional contributions to breast cancer support and awareness. At Gilda's Club Madison she oversees all mental health services and programs, ensuring that everyone impacted by cancer receives the best possible care. Kirsten leads support groups and workshops, providing essential emotional and psychological help to patients and their families. She also supervises other mental health professionals, ensuring top-quality care for families navigating cancer's challenges. She seeks out ways for Gilda's Club to partner with Breast Cancer Recovery, ABCD, Team Survivor, and others. Kirsten's contributions to her community. Kirsten's impact extends far beyond Gilda's Club. She collaborates with cancer clinics and medical partners across the state, elevating the importance of psychosocial care in cancer treatment. Through her partnership with the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative, Kirsten has worked on projects supporting patients and caregivers. She played an active role in writing the chapter on cancer survivorship for the Wisconsin Cancer Control Plan. Kirsten's expertise is so valued that researchers at the University of Wisconsin frequently seek her partnership. In addition, Kirsten gives special attention to the needs of young adults who were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40. She created and successfully implemented the Midwest Young Adult Cancer Conference for eight years, ensured that Gilda's Club Madison had a team member focused on young adults' special unmet needs, and fosters impactful relationships with other organizations that serve AYAs. Her contributions have significantly shaped cancer care throughout the state, making her an invaluable asset to Gilda's Club and the broader cancer community.
