My initial retreat was in July, 2012 on the beautiful Madeline Island.
I volunteered at the Osthoff Resort in 2022 and will be volunteering again at the Sundara in the Wisconsin Dells in November.
I volunteer because many people have helped me on my path through cancer. Without their encouragement and support it would've made my journey much more difficult. I hope I can be there to return that kindness and support to someone else.
I have volunteered with the West Bend Chamber of Commerce for the annual geocache MEGA Event and I started it back 15 years ago. I've also volunteered with the love is greater than hate group. My biggest accomplishment was after my diagnosis my vow to do something good out of something bad and make 100 bracelets for breast cancer survivors. I accumulated beads from donations and purchasing them on my own. Each bead is meant to represent a different part of your journey with breast cancer and they became known as Journey Bracelets. They were being handed out at the cancer centers at St. Joseph's Hospital in West Bend and also Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. In addition, we held workshops monthly for women to come make their own bracelets and we made them also at my first retreat. The goal was 100 bracelets, but as of today 4,753 bracelets are on the wrists of breast cancer survivors.
Getting a diagnosis of cancer is one of the worst times in your life. Many hours will be devoted to medical issues, taking care of your family while you're sick, and mentally trying to get through it all. Family and friends are a great support, but if they haven't been through cancer, it is understandably difficult for them to relate to what it is that you're going through. A retreat is exactly what you need at that time, a retreat from the stress, work and worry. Having the fellowship of other people who understand exactly how you are feeling is one of the best parts of these retreats! These retreats are expertly planned at beautiful resorts with staff who understand your needs and have been right where you are. I promise, you will leave a changed person with a whole new list of friends and a new outlook on what you've been through along with strategies to help you cope for things to come. Infinite Boundary Retreats literally saved me, in so many ways, it will do the same for you.
