Klara's story is one of resilience and determination. In 2008, at age 28, she was diagnosed with stage IIB invasive ductal carcinoma. At the time, her son was three years old, and her daughter was one, and she was working towards her Associate Degree in nursing. Despite everything, she graduated with honors. Then, in 2021, at age 41 and while working towards her Bachelor's Degree in nursing, she was diagnosed with a recurrence of the chest wall. Undeterred, she graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Before becoming a nurse, Klara worked as an administrative assistant and in accounts receivable. Having her first son changed her path, and she found a new calling in nursing. She worked in home health for 6 1/2 years and in an ER/Urgent Care setting for 1 year, before joining the staff at BCR Breast Cancer Recovery retreats. At our organization, we have been fortunate to have Klara as our Program Director since January 2016. Her personal experience with breast cancer has given her a unique perspective and empathy towards other survivors. Klara's dedication to nursing and survivor support is truly inspiring, and we are proud to have her lead our team. She has shared her story nationally with Pfizer and the American Cancer Society and through Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s most-read blog of 2025.Klara's passion doesn't stop at work. She lives in Glidden, WI, with her husband, Nathan, and their Chesapeake Retriever, Pug, and two cats. As empty nesters, they enjoy all that the WI Northwoods has to offer, especially camping, fishing, and Lake Superior agate hunting. Klara's positive attitude and zest for life are contagious, and we are lucky to have her as part of our community.
